Lee Roy Selmon's past combines the virtues of family football scholarship with community service. Selmon is the youngest of children of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon, who took care of him at their property in Eufala. Also, he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. Three of them were All-Americans. For 1973 Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for just one season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the most effective lineman in the country. The three seasons he was the team's starter, Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and secured two national championships. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in the field of education. Lee Roy spent ten hours every week in volunteer work in his college days. He moved to Tampa following college. He played with the Buccaneers for 9 years and played three times in the all-pro league. His career in business began. In 1988 he was an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked for these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of 10 of the most outstanding American young men. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 lbs. He captained his college team in the year 1975. In 1993 he joined his current position at University of South Florida as an associate director of athletics. In 1988 the year he was a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into both an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Selmons' parents Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma awarded it.
